Florabella’s Flowers For All Occasions

Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day. Just two of the most important holidays. And during these occasions, Filipinos all over the Philippines go to the nearest flower shop to buy a fresh bouquet of flowers — be it red roses, white roses, and roses by any other color – to offer the most important people in our lives.
And because of our sentimental way of celebrating special events with flowers, flower shops in the Philippines are always in bloom. Florabella flower shop is one of those supplying us with special flower arrangements for every occasion.
Ms. Gidget Espinosa is the owner and managing director for Florabella. She started the business in July 27, 2004 but she has been involved in the flower business all her life. “My Lola had a flower shop in the then Quad Makati. So everyday we see flowers being arranged and eventually learned the business side of it,” she said.
Gidget already had a flower shop before Florabella, but in it she had five other partners. “I decided to put up my own because I wanted things to be my call, like I want to use my own flower arrangement designs. And, of course, my own flower shop business.”
To put up Florabella, she needed an initial capital of Php1 million for the space rent, staff, a delivery van, ref, and other operating costs. She only needed four staff — secretary, flower arranger, messenger, and a driver.
Her suppliers are flower growers from Davao, Baguio City and Tagaytay, who deliver the flowers around three times a week.
Of course, Gidget noted that others can start their own flower shop business for less than a million bucks. “That really depends on the type of shop they want to have,” she said. Major considerations are the location, the space rent, and the equipment. No frills flower shops that don’t have delivery service, with not so much flower arrangement requirements can definitely start small.
Florabella’s clients include companies, walk-in customers, and foreigners via the Internet .
“We service corporate clients like San Miguel, who commission us for funeral wreaths, birthdays, or other corporate events. We also get walk-in clients, although not much. I’d say they only comprise 10-15% of our sales. Many orders we get from phone calls, emails, referrals, and through our Florabella online flower shop, which brings in about 20% of our clientele.”
Florabella also service weddings, anniversaries, and private parties. They deliver throughout the Manila city proper and even in provinces through its partner florists.
But, as expected, the busiest time for Florabella are Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day. And their all-time bestsellers are red roses. “Nothing beats a dozen red roses!” Gidget quips.
A dozen roses costs Php2,200. A single rose for Php300. Gidget said they only hike up the prices of the flowers, especially during special holidays, when their suppliers do so. Otherwise there’s really no need to take advantage of the high demand for flowers.
The funeral wreaths, meanwhile, can cost from 1,650 to 10-15 thousand. Usual orders cost 3-5 thousand. They also get a lot of orders for gift baskets with bears and chocolates.
Roses aren’t the only blooms here, they have different varieties of tulips, carnations, orchids, and other exotic flowers.
Want To Join The Flower Shop Business?
For those who want to have their own flower shop business, Gidget would advise them to enroll in trainings and seminars to enhance their flower arranging talents. More importantly, they should learn the business side like costing, and the quality control of your products.
“Owners should know the art of flower arrangements. Because this is a business that involves a lot of work. It’s important that you know what to do when your staff is not around.”
Florabella’s shop in Rada St., Makati is the first store but Gidget plans to expand and set up shop in other locations, like Ortigas.
You can get more info on Florabella’s flower products and services by visiting its online flower shop. Through their online store, it’s easier for you to send flowers to your loved one’s in the Philippines. For Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, and for all occasions.

hi, I would like to ask about the flower shop business. I am residing at Cubao. Q.C. I have attended 1 flower arrangement workshop but still I am not that confident to accept orders because I lack the experience. I really want to have a small flower shop business at home. Do you know of any flower shop owner whom I can I apply as apprentice?
Thanks a lot.

We are looking for distributors of our new product, Antica Organic Fungicide & Bactericide. It’s a non-toxic flower preservative. It inhibits the growth of fungal and bacterial pathogens, and also controls accumulation of ethylene.. Using 5 ml. of Antica in 1 liter of water makes flowers last longer as compared to those using water alone. This dosage can also be used when spraying the plants. You mail email ahcil_laboratories@yahoo.com or call 0920 9526237.
