PLDT’s MyDSL BIZ doesn’t work with routers. Bad for business.

Wow, a new post on MagNEGOSYO.com after months of quiet huh? See, our company TRAPIK MEDIA just moved offices – thus, a lot of reorganization an re-prioritization of work. So we moved to a new office and we had to bite MyDSL BIZ option because Globelines has no more lines (pun intended) on our new building and Eastern’s (ETPI) salespeople don’t want to do a sale. So we bit the bullet and signed with PLDT’s MyDSL.
This MyDSL subscription uses automatic IP assignment, NO usernames and passwords, NO logging in and out. GREAT right? So far yes. With this set-up, enabling a broadband router (any broadband router) is as simple as selecting “AUTOMATIC IP ADDRESS” and ENABLING “DHCP” on the router settings. Well, it’s not that easy with PLDT’s MYDSL BIZ on NGN.
Apparently we got on the NGN line – GREAT! whatever the hell that means, we just want a reliable Internet connection for the office. When I connected my D-LINK ROUTER – dang, It wouldn’t work – no connection!
So I pulled an alternative router – a NETGEAR – DANG! It wouldn’t work again.
Calls to the MyDSL help support line bore no fruits coz all they say is “Sir, we don’t support routers” and “You have to call a private technician for that router problem, sir“.
So here I am one month later, pulled another alternate ROUTER a LINKSYS – my last attempt – I just tried guys – IT DOESN’T WORK – can’t connect to the Internet via routers on this dang MyDSL NGN deal.
What should I to do now? There is a contract period and I want to get out of it. Is it possible PLDT sold me a MyDSL BIZ subscription BUT I cannot share the DSL Internet connection to other computers in my office via a ROUTER? What kind of business is that? What kind of BS is PLDT pulling with this NGN network deal? This is CRAP! PLDT’s MyDSL BIZ on NGN is REALLY BAD for business!

I don’t see why it shouldn’t work. All you should have to do is connect the router to your DSL modem via Ethernet — which I presume you did — and you’ll be good to go. Your modem should give you a “public” IP address from PLDT’s IP pool and a fixed internal IP, probably 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1. Only reason I can think of is that your modem doesn’t get an internal IP, which is strange. If so, there should be some solution but my brain’s still got remnants of this cold virus going around.
Where are you located? Send me an email and I maybe able to help. If it didn’t work you don’t have to pay me. I available Sat-Sun.
Hi!
The new PLDT DSL supports routers that support PPPoE (almost all recent and new routers do) but you have to know how or get someone to configure them. The PPPoE feature requires a username and password. PPPoE is now normally used by almost all DSL providers (even in other countries).
Your username and password is normally written on a piece of paper (filled-out form) that is given to you by the PLDT technician upon completion of the installation. On the web configuration screen of your router, instead of using DHCP, you now have to select PPPoE and then input the username and password (as provided by PLDT). If you don’t have the paper, all you have to do is call 172, enter your phone number and provide your PL number. They will now give you the username and password. It is unique to your phone line so it cannot be used by another DSL subscriber.
In case you don’t know your PL number, get a hold of your current bill when you call so that they can issue you the username and password after they ask you a couple of routine questions. Don’t forget to ask for your PL number also so that it will be easier for you the next time you call them (either to report a problem or for any other reason).
Hope to have helped.
As a rejoinder to my GRIPE post about not being able to share MyDSL NGN via routers – after one month and a half of making backflips hat tricks and what nots, including the having to pay 4 months for early ternination of MyDSL service – finally today, just a few minutes ago – I am now able to share MyDSL NGN through my LinkSys router.
the HOW and WHY for the benefit of those who will fall prey into signing up for PLDT’s DSL service on NGN.
This is for connections on MyDSL SmallBIZ Micro package on NGN using DHCP (dynamic IP address without username|password)
1. PLDT’s router (a ZYXEL) records the connecting device’s MAC address and reports it to their DATA CENTER. This MAC ADDRESS is purged every 8 minutes.
2. When the tech first connected my laptop to the net using the ZYXEL MODEM – my laptop’s MAC address was registered as the only valid MAC address for my subscription.
Thus, when I connected the MODEM to the ROUTER so start sharing the connection – the system detected the ROUTER’s MAC address as a different one – and thus, a connection was refused.
3. What programming hacks and cracking tricks did I pull to finally enable sharing of MyDSL NGN via ROUTER? Simple.
1. TURN OFF MODEM (PLDT’s provided ZyXEL modem)
2. WAIT for 8 minutes. Heck, make that 15 minutes.
3. CONNECT MODEM to ROUTER.
VOILA! The connection is now shared to all computers in the office!
What just happened? Simple! the 8 minute wait from turn off MODEM was to purge my laptop’s MAC address from system/data center
THAT’S IT! after one and a half months of grief! Try calling PLDT’s MyDSL helpline and not getting past the standard replies “routers not our problem sir *we don’t deal with routers sir *call outside technician sir
PLDT just doesn’t care for its customers. ZERO. ZILCH.
Who helped me with my connection sharing problem? Upon pressing the sales agent sho sold us the package, she sent two (2) PLDT regular technicians (who didn’t have a clue what they were sent to, had to trouble ticket at hand, no case # to refer to, they were just sent); these guys didn’t know what the NGN deal was – but they LISTENED and they TRIED! They called a guy in the office who is the “MODEM/ROUTER/EXPERT” – that’s all they did. Simple. Easy.
If only those on the PLDT helpline frontline and supervisors had a little bit more customer sensitivity – my problem would’ve been solved on Day 1.
Or because they are a tech/IT company now, they would enter this case on their knowledgebase for future referrals. But heck no, those call center people have their scripts to stick to.
well, there’s the rejoinder.
Finally, now I can work again. No more time to post on mailing lists.
call pldt hotline and schedule a visit from their technician. Their technician rewired my LAN to optimize my bandwidth. asking customer care agents regarding your router won’t help cause they are just trained to answer calls.
hi,is it possible i could own an internet cafe through pldt?if yes,how much will it cost and i want to know how u process it.thanks
we also encounter the same problem with pldt but in our case the onsite tech offer us that he can share the connection to other pc if we are willing to pay additional 1800. At first we refuse to pay we decided that we will be the one to configure into the network but later on we found out that the connection can’t be shared to other computer so we try calling their tech support “we don’t configure routers You have to call the onsite technician” so we try to contact the onsite tech he said we will need a router to share the connection so i was not so sure if the router would work so we just agreed to pay the 1800 to share the connection to other pc’s using only the switch since he was not helpful enough to provide us with the gateway, DNS address. after we agreed to pay he configure it again now with assign ip address, gateway, and DNS address.
it doesnt work, i myself have their latest modem according to them and subscribed for the 2mbps plan. i pay 2k for it because im in need of a faster connection and 1mbps aint enough for me.
anyway, it doesnt work because i used a router, netgear to be specific and youll just be disconnected like trice a day. itll get its new ip address for like 30 minutes which means thats the time it can reconnect again, its a big hassle if your in the middle of something.
also, if you have a fax machine and phone extension, they will just force you to remove it cse it interferes with the modem which causes the disconnection. even with a splitter. knowing that PLDT is a leading provider of this kind of service, they still have this lowtech or they still couldnt find out how to fix the problem. they shouldve said a warning on their subscription in the first place knowing they let you sign a contract.
im using zyxel modem given by them, i was asking them for my private username and password, they keep on telling me they dont have it because since my plan is 2mbps, my connection is always automatic which is pretty stupid(sorry)
they sent a technician to my house and he was asking me whats the problem, i just told him, werent you informed? dont you know why you went here in the first place? but i cant imagine how i said all that in a nice way =) but i got really pissed when i told him the problem and all he said was, i cant use a router. (oh my god..)
ived been experiencing this for like 4 months now.
sigh to PLDT..
ived also tried some programming hacks etc since im an IT myself. even asked my dorky classmates about it and still didnt work. tried linksys router and still didnt worked.
about the DNS, you can use this as your alternative DNS if you cant access some sites.
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
but ill be continuing my subscription to PLDT. ived always been a fan of their service and they are nice in some way. im a loyalist even though i heard the new sun cellular broadband is kicking right now. and yeah, if you use fax, phone extensions and routers? splitters wont work and since they also did say their modems arent made for routers, its not a good investment for business purposes.
the last resort for fixin this problem if you have all this peripherals is, buy a 3k worth old computer and make it as your server, make a fixed ip address and thats it.
another way is to unsubscribe, hack their ip add. there are many people who does this but im not gonna tell how since its illegal.
pldt dsl, smartbro sharing..please contact me,maybe i can help .im from sampaloc manila,
0-9-2-8-3-6-3-1-6-1-6 is my number…
the connection type settings of the router should match the connection provided by the ISP..usually DYNAMIC or PPPoe atbp.
I opened an internet shop last year. I have been experiencing no DSL connection for one week period. Imagine the lost profit not to mention all the overhead epenses. My blood pressure shoots up everytine I call 171 coz all call center agents just stick to their scripts and can’t even give you definite answer on the problem . The technicians wil then come and visit but you after 3 to 4 days but then after they leave the shop , the same problem will occur and again no connection the FF. day. I almost lost lost this business bec. of poor connection I get from PLDT as small biz plan holder. I just hope one day a big company will just sho wup to compete with PLDT so that they will improve their service .
wah.. i also need help. pldt 5 IP. we will need to share internet and use the public IPs for computers. what i am able to do is just share the internet.
I’ve been subscribing to pldt mydsl for almost 6 mons. and the problem i had also with the router. i installed a dlink router and i had missing internet connection . i have 3 computers on a network and only 1 has a connection. so what i did is i switched to a wired tp link router. the connection worked for the 3 pc’s. the wired router is easy to set up all you nhave to follow is the cd package. i also have an internet cafe software running sometimes. the main problem i think is that my 2mb my dsl line is only showing about 1.6 mb internet speed tests which shows that i have been cheated by pldt. Anybody knows of a better and “faster” connection for the same price of Ph 2k i have been paying pldt for the last 6 months?
I also experienced the same problems, I owning a computer cafe, and subscribe to my dsl biz, hoping to have a better connction than my competitors. But its a disaster,,, I wait for a month for my line and configuration of my modem… and after a month during the rainy days, almost every day I always been disconnecting. and my dial tone gone. I call the 171 hotlune, but they always telling non sense things. I closed my cafe for 5 days because of the fault of PLDt’s connection. Such a bad idea subscribing to this company
This is blasphemy. I would suggest you to delete this post to avoid being accused of publishing wrong information. I cannot see any reason why the type of DSL service will not be compatible with routers. There is a way to make it work. I have a residential DSL subscription and 3 computers are connected using a router.
PLDT always says that their speed is variable. for example I subscribed to thei 3.5 mbps speed plan but I’m only getting 1.5mbps-2.5mbps such a cheat. They telling that the speed is “up to” so chances are you will not get the assurance that your speed will be what in your plan states. such a mess. And during rainy season their connection is like a dial up, They only up to the profit but not the satisfaction of their customers. Plus non sense customer agents and bastards technicians who are up to their sidelines and kickbacks. I hope PLDT can adress this problems.
Ahhh, PLDT, Globe, Philippine TELCOS – they’re here to give us lousy service, out-of-this-world charging, false ads, and super hell-desk.
Nothing new – and there’s no hope. They monopolize the industry, block new players, kill them before they can even start.
No wonder we are of the most expensive yet worse telecoms industry in Asia.
I have had enough of them – esp. Globe.
All you got to do is disable the DHCP. It works for all routers. The DHCP is the on that is actually not allowing the router to distribute connection to other computer. It works even for US connections whether dial-up or broadband. Sadly its the router and connection providers agreement that provider should not support routers. But PLDT should supply a router that they can support… since they should be able to supply something that wuld server what they tell their customers. To better understand whats wrong with the connection you can just simply right click on you LAN on the network connections window and click repair… it will gove you repair steps or it will automatically repair.. With this you already know what you should do.
Anyways I have globe broadband and they also give you lies… unfortunately now knowing what NTC’s power is, we can’t do anything about it.
actually guys! i’m am once an OJT DSL technician of PLDT, i agree that PLDT is the leading telecommunication company but all of their cabled dsl connection is a disaster for the reasons: they have 4 kinds of networks used and NGN is the latest that means Next Generation Network but for us personnels it is No Good Network because the basic computation is- example: i’ved subscribed to 3mbps but it only appears on my pc when i conduct speedtest is only 1.8mbps. i should receive 2.5-2.8mbps an acceptable range but if does’nt it implies that my residence or work place is more than 3.5 km from their Central Office in that area so that’s the real thing.
if anyone has kinda prob. am willing to help i’m just a txt away its 09284569639
@jerzsky,
P.O.T.S. that’s your problem. if you can drop fiber optic from your residence to the nearest exchange you will surely get 3Mbps.
hth.
Cant seem to agree with this but i have subscribe to My DSL around 2007 i got a dlink router with Wifi I got 4 computers oonnected to it.
i dont understand what would be the difference between PLDT My DSL Biz (ngn) and the Residential one (excluding the bandwidth capacity)???
Nubietech
There are alot of factors affecting your actual speed such as quality of the copper wires used in the area, in the household, how far is the CO from the residence and so on. They may advertise 6Mbps but take these factors into consideration plus the overhead you will probably get somewhere around 3-4Mbps. Take note that the quality of the phone lines in the Philippines are not physically great. By the way, for everyone’s information, the max speed you can get on an ADSL is 7Mbps.
People need to understand how DSL work, what are its advantage and disadvantages.
I am using Verizon’s FiOS. It’s basically FTTP (Fiber to the premises). I signed up for 20Mbps/20Mbps and its great!
I wish the Philippines would do something about the quality of the lines in there.
I had the same problem with Globe until I changed the default IP address on my Linksys to 10.0.0.1 because the router that Globe setup in the residence was using the same private address as my router 192.168.1.1, so something had to change and they password protected the configuration on the Semen modem in the house. So in reality I was not getting true ADSL because I was not receiving a true dedicated circuit from Globe with my own IP address. I thoght that this was how it was supposed to work. I was living in Korea for 16 years and always received a dedicate Ip from the ISP with ADSL. So guess what folks, the companies here are doing false advertising and ripping people off …
That’s why Bayantel IS the best… dsl with bayantel never has a problem, nothing complicated to confihure even if you have 10 computers at home sharing the router or wireless with 1 bayantel dsl connection, their customer service is also very helpful with a guarantee of less than 24 hrs service for any problem. it never fails.
My PLDT DSL works ok with a d-link router, There are no complicated settings to do but input your password and username on the WAN settings. I just started using it today, March 17, 2010. I read a lot of horror stories using PLDT DSL, hopefully it won’t happen to me.
i have my MY DSL Bizz and when i try to connect to router it doesn’t work, but when i direct to my PC using PPOE connection i could enter in internet, the problem is when i configure my router, my router detect a static IP but im using PPOE Connection if i wanna Surf, i need help on how to configure my router so that i could share my 3.5mbs my PLDT Biz connection through my Client Workstation
There shouldn’t be a problem with your router’s and modem. Anyone here know how to configure a router and make it synch’d with the modem? Coz I’m not seeing one who knows how to do it. Dont blame your providers about the modem and your routers. If its not their product how would they support it? And regarding the subscription that you have with your provider, you cannot get the exact speed on what you signed up for. It doesnt work that way, its the maximum speed but not the speed that you’ll get.
If you’re having problems with any router that you have which work with your modem even though you’ve tried anything and contacted someone to fix, just shoot me and email (I’ll provide it to whoever would ask). Linksys tech here and I can guarantee that I can fix whatever problem you have unless proven that the router or modem is defective.
