PLDT’s MyDSL BIZ doesn’t work with routers. Bad for business.
Wow, a new post on MagNEGOSYO.com after months of quiet huh? See, our company TRAPIK MEDIA just moved offices - thus, a lot of reorganization an re-prioritization of work. So we moved to a new office and we had to bite MyDSL BIZ option because Globelines has no more lines (pun intended) on our new building and Eastern’s (ETPI) salespeople don’t want to do a sale. So we bit the bullet and signed with PLDT’s MyDSL.
This MyDSL subscription uses automatic IP assignment, NO usernames and passwords, NO logging in and out. GREAT right? So far yes. With this set-up, enabling a broadband router (any broadband router) is as simple as selecting “AUTOMATIC IP ADDRESS” and ENABLING “DHCP” on the router settings. Well, it’s not that easy with PLDT’s MYDSL BIZ on NGN.
Apparently we got on the NGN line - GREAT! whatever the hell that means, we just want a reliable Internet connection for the office. When I connected my D-LINK ROUTER - dang, It wouldn’t work - no connection!
So I pulled an alternative router - a NETGEAR - DANG! It wouldn’t work again.
Calls to the MyDSL help support line bore no fruits coz all they say is “Sir, we don’t support routers” and “You have to call a private technician for that router problem, sir“.
So here I am one month later, pulled another alternate ROUTER a LINKSYS - my last attempt - I just tried guys - IT DOESN’T WORK - can’t connect to the Internet via routers on this dang MyDSL NGN deal.
What should I to do now? There is a contract period and I want to get out of it. Is it possible PLDT sold me a MyDSL BIZ subscription BUT I cannot share the DSL Internet connection to other computers in my office via a ROUTER? What kind of business is that? What kind of BS is PLDT pulling with this NGN network deal? This is CRAP! PLDT’s MyDSL BIZ on NGN is REALLY BAD for business!

I don’t see why it shouldn’t work. All you should have to do is connect the router to your DSL modem via Ethernet — which I presume you did — and you’ll be good to go. Your modem should give you a “public” IP address from PLDT’s IP pool and a fixed internal IP, probably 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1. Only reason I can think of is that your modem doesn’t get an internal IP, which is strange. If so, there should be some solution but my brain’s still got remnants of this cold virus going around.
Where are you located? Send me an email and I maybe able to help. If it didn’t work you don’t have to pay me. I available Sat-Sun.
Hi!
The new PLDT DSL supports routers that support PPPoE (almost all recent and new routers do) but you have to know how or get someone to configure them. The PPPoE feature requires a username and password. PPPoE is now normally used by almost all DSL providers (even in other countries).
Your username and password is normally written on a piece of paper (filled-out form) that is given to you by the PLDT technician upon completion of the installation. On the web configuration screen of your router, instead of using DHCP, you now have to select PPPoE and then input the username and password (as provided by PLDT). If you don’t have the paper, all you have to do is call 172, enter your phone number and provide your PL number. They will now give you the username and password. It is unique to your phone line so it cannot be used by another DSL subscriber.
In case you don’t know your PL number, get a hold of your current bill when you call so that they can issue you the username and password after they ask you a couple of routine questions. Don’t forget to ask for your PL number also so that it will be easier for you the next time you call them (either to report a problem or for any other reason).
Hope to have helped.
As a rejoinder to my GRIPE post about not being able to share MyDSL NGN via routers - after one month and a half of making backflips hat tricks and what nots, including the having to pay 4 months for early ternination of MyDSL service - finally today, just a few minutes ago - I am now able to share MyDSL NGN through my LinkSys router.
the HOW and WHY for the benefit of those who will fall prey into signing up for PLDT’s DSL service on NGN.
This is for connections on MyDSL SmallBIZ Micro package on NGN using DHCP (dynamic IP address without username|password)
1. PLDT’s router (a ZYXEL) records the connecting device’s MAC address and reports it to their DATA CENTER. This MAC ADDRESS is purged every 8 minutes.
2. When the tech first connected my laptop to the net using the ZYXEL MODEM - my laptop’s MAC address was registered as the only valid MAC address for my subscription.
Thus, when I connected the MODEM to the ROUTER so start sharing the connection - the system detected the ROUTER’s MAC address as a different one - and thus, a connection was refused.
3. What programming hacks and cracking tricks did I pull to finally enable sharing of MyDSL NGN via ROUTER? Simple.
1. TURN OFF MODEM (PLDT’s provided ZyXEL modem)
2. WAIT for 8 minutes. Heck, make that 15 minutes.
3. CONNECT MODEM to ROUTER.
VOILA! The connection is now shared to all computers in the office!
What just happened? Simple! the 8 minute wait from turn off MODEM was to purge my laptop’s MAC address from system/data center
THAT’S IT! after one and a half months of grief! Try calling PLDT’s MyDSL helpline and not getting past the standard replies “routers not our problem sir *we don’t deal with routers sir *call outside technician sir
PLDT just doesn’t care for its customers. ZERO. ZILCH.
Who helped me with my connection sharing problem? Upon pressing the sales agent sho sold us the package, she sent two (2) PLDT regular technicians (who didn’t have a clue what they were sent to, had to trouble ticket at hand, no case # to refer to, they were just sent); these guys didn’t know what the NGN deal was - but they LISTENED and they TRIED! They called a guy in the office who is the “MODEM/ROUTER/EXPERT” - that’s all they did. Simple. Easy.
If only those on the PLDT helpline frontline and supervisors had a little bit more customer sensitivity - my problem would’ve been solved on Day 1.
Or because they are a tech/IT company now, they would enter this case on their knowledgebase for future referrals. But heck no, those call center people have their scripts to stick to.
well, there’s the rejoinder.
Finally, now I can work again. No more time to post on mailing lists.
call pldt hotline and schedule a visit from their technician. Their technician rewired my LAN to optimize my bandwidth. asking customer care agents regarding your router won’t help cause they are just trained to answer calls.
hi,is it possible i could own an internet cafe through pldt?if yes,how much will it cost and i want to know how u process it.thanks
we also encounter the same problem with pldt but in our case the onsite tech offer us that he can share the connection to other pc if we are willing to pay additional 1800. At first we refuse to pay we decided that we will be the one to configure into the network but later on we found out that the connection can’t be shared to other computer so we try calling their tech support “we don’t configure routers You have to call the onsite technician” so we try to contact the onsite tech he said we will need a router to share the connection so i was not so sure if the router would work so we just agreed to pay the 1800 to share the connection to other pc’s using only the switch since he was not helpful enough to provide us with the gateway, DNS address. after we agreed to pay he configure it again now with assign ip address, gateway, and DNS address.
